This research project focused on the development and implementation of tools to improve the environmental performance of ports. The project involved 26 partners of whom 13 ports and port organizations had the lead, and 5 universities and 8 experts provided environmental expertise and dedicated training capacity. From 1 June 2002 until 1 June 2005 the project focused on the creation of a European ‘ports & environment’ network, involving all major European seaports and inland ports.
