environmental issues

Port managers are increasingly confronted with the (potential) impact of port operations and port development activities on the environment. The ECO-Information project identified a list of the most important environmental issues, for which port managers are seeking concrete, practical and above all, cost-effective solutions.

These issues can have an impact on different levels, for instance on the port and the companies located in the port itself, on the people working in the ports, but also on the surrounding areas like the city and natural resources.

The ECOPORTS project led to the start of working groups, case studies and demonstration projects on these, and new, topics. The objective was, and still is, to collect information, identify bottlenecks and new challenges, and start new collaborations to tackle these challenges.

Any port or stakeholder from the port community or logistic chain is welcome to join the EcoPorts discussions and working groups on environmental issues. To join one of the working groups, or to provide input, please contact the EcoPorts Secretariat (foundation@ecoports.com).

We are also interested to hear from commercial organisations who are able to demonstrate good and practical solutions to these issues for our network.
