Port of Algeciras Bay (Spain) receives PERS certificate

09 Nov 2016

On 9 November 2016, ESPO Secretary General, Isabelle Ryckbost, and ESPO Chairman, Eamonn O’Reilly, handed over the PERS certificate to the General Manager of the Port of Algeciras Bay, Mr. José Luis Hormaechea Escos.
The Port of Algeciras Bay, which joined the EcoPorts network in 2014, is achieving PERS certification for the first time. “We warmly welcome the Port of Algeciras in the distinguished network of PERS certified ports”, said Antonis Michail, EcoPorts coordinator.

PERS is the only port sector specific environmental management standard. It is the flagship product of the EcoPorts network and is offered as part of the ESPO services to its members through the EcoPorts website (www.ecoports.com). Compliance with the PERS standard is independently assessed by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance and the certificate has a validity of 2 years. There are 27 ports in Europe and its neighbouring countries currently certified by PERS. ESPO encourages all ports within its membership to join the EcoPorts network and apply for PERS certification.
