Renewed PERS certification for the Port of Baku
ESPO congratulates the Port Authority of Baku (Azerbaijan) on achieving recertification under the EcoPorts environmental management standard (PERS). As a member of EcoPorts since 2018 and has been awarded the PERS certificate for the fourth time.
Isabelle Ryckbost, ESPO Secretary General, commented: “Congratulations to the Port of Baku with its efforts and ambitions as regards Environmental sustainability and performance, as demonstrated through this PERS recertification, which reflects its ongoing commitment to responsible port management”.
Tim Verhoeven, ESPO Senior Policy Advisor and EcoPorts Coordinator, said: “I’m impressed by the Port of Baku’s strong environmental and sustainability ambitions, and we are pleased to see these efforts rightfully recognised with the EcoPorts PERS certificate for the fourth time”.
PERS (Port Environmental Review System) is the only port-specific environmental standard. The last five years have seen important increases in its recognition and membership, with 86 ports from 25 countries currently counting themselves as part of the EcoPorts Network, and 31 ports holding PERS certification. Compliance with the EcoPorts’ PERS standard is independently assessed by LRQA Nederland B.V. and the certificate has a validity of two years. EcoPorts’ PERS is revised after the 2-year period, ensuring ports continuously meet the requirements.
